There are many bands that adorn themselves with the title "Fantasy Black/Power/Whatever (circle the right answer) Metal", but what is it actually adding to the music itself? Usually nothing, because unlike melodic, brutal or raw genres, there is no actual relation to the music itself, the fantasy part is talking about the lyrics. Yes, I know, it's a good way to know what the lyrics are about, because some bands can actually write lyrics. Heruka's case, just as many others, seems somewhat stupid. The language of the lyrics is Italian, so I wouldn't manage to understand it even in a million years, and the same goes for the other non-Italian speaking metal fans.
Heruka's album, "Leggenda" (Legend…) is not a bad album, though far from being a great either. I can't say I hear anything innovative in this album. However, it's hard to always be innovative, so being a nice replica of something good can be all right from time to time.
Most of the album is pretty generic Black Metal, somewhat underground, with ok keyboards. The riffs are well combined with the keyboards and bass and together they form a nice Black Metal expo. The only thing that bothers me a lot is the drum programming. Although for programmed drums it isn't very bad, it's still pretty annoying in means of bad drumming (because really, this is a bit unrealistic metal. If I'd like to hear inhuman drumming I'd go pick some Techno albums…). In the sense of Black Metal being all true and grim, using drum programming is just… untrue and not grim. Abbath drummed himself when Immortal didn't have a drummer!.
